Job Description:
General Statement of Duties
The per diem counselor is a part-time, non-benefitted position with
the counseling and health services clinical team, delivering
psychological services to members of the Salem State student body
and providing consultation to the staff and community. It is open
to those with a masters degree in clinical or counseling
psychology, mental health counseling, or social work. The position
is a temporary appointment. Funding is potentially available for up
to 20 hours a week and scheduled between the hours of 9-5
M/Tu/Th/F. Applicants should indicate availability and desired
number of hours or range of hours they would like to be considered
for.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide psychological care in the individual therapy format with
SSU undergraduate and graduate students. Therapists should be
comfortable working in a brief therapy model, generally meeting
biweekly and supporting students for 1-2 semesters. Provide
consultation for CHS staff and campus staff/faculty, as needed.
Related case management duties include coordinating with students,
their families, off campus care providers, and on campus support
services and documenting contacts. This can include assistance with
referrals for students who need longer term or more intensive
services. Related crisis service duties include coverage for urgent
care/emergency appointment times across the course of the week, and
assisting with unscheduled walk-in emergencies. While rare, the
counselor could also be responsible for coordinating involuntary
psychiatric holds ("Section 12") with staff eligible to apply for
such holds, or in coordination with other CHS clinicians and local
emergency services. Follow all related departmental and university
protocols and procedures, including standards for documentation and
emergencies.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
* Master's degree in clinical or counseling psychology or social
work
* 2 years pre-licensure practicum or internship training
experience
* Experience serving a diverse college student population
Preferred Qualifications:
* Commitment to providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive
care
