working on the Medicinal Chemistry team, you will be empowered to
apply innovative synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry
principles and techniques toward the discovery of medicines for
oncology, neuroscience, GI diseases, and rare diseases.OBJECTIVES:
- We are seeking a creative and highly motivated medicinal chemist
with several years of industry experience to join us to implement a
diverse array of chemistry-based therapeutic modalities toward the
development of medicines for oncology, neuroscience, GI, and rare
diseases, with a particular focus on targeted protein degradation,
RNA modulation, and protein/small molecule conjugation.
- Candidate should have significant experience in chemistry-based
drug discovery, including managing matrixed project teams and
programs.
- Candidate will independently design, develop and execute
research assignments (both laboratory and non-laboratory-based)
across a variety of projects, acting as senior scientific
consultant or as a project team lead.
- Candidate will be expected to interact and collaborate with
cross-functional scientists throughout the Takeda research
organization, as well as external partner
organizations.ACCOUNTABILITIES: -
- Develop and oversee the design, synthesis, and characterization
of biologically active molecules with suitable drug-like
properties; will manage the work of others directly or in a
matrixed structure.
- Champion new chemistry directions and contribute to
platform-related activities for chemistry-based therapeutic
modalities such as targeted protein degradation, RNA modulation,
and protein/small molecule conjugation.
- Scientifically assess and recommend vendors, and manage the
preparation and submission of requests to contract research
organizations (CROs) for project-related chemistry.
- Ensure the appropriate conduct of studies, lead the
interpretation of study results, and prepare study reports suitable
for internal or regulatory use
- Act as scientific resource for programs, taking a leading role
in the development of project strategy, as well as communication
and analysis of complex data to both chemists and
non-chemists.
- Develop and leverage strong collaborations with
cross-functional scientists as a key member of a multidisciplinary
drug discovery project team.
- Use scientific expertise in medicinal chemistry, modern
chemistry literature, principles of drug design, and breadth of
experience working with other disciplines (computational chemistry,
biophysical and biochemical assays, and DMPK) to develop solutions
and strategies suitable to identify high quality candidates for
drug discovery programs.
- Regularly communicate project data, status and key issues to
discovery team and management through presentations in a variety of
forums, including high visibility global meetings.
- Acts as the recognized scientific resource on an aspect of a
program.EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- Ph.D. degree with 5+ years of experience, or Master's degree in
a scientific discipline, or equivalent with 10+ years of experience
or Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, or equivalent with
12+ years of experience
- Broad technical program knowledge.
- Project management skills and proficiency with scientific
data-base, collaboration, and modelling tools
- Experience preparing experimental section of a patent and/or
scientific journal manuscript preparation
- Significant experience with lab instrumentation such as NMR,
LCMS, and ISCO purification systemsTRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- None requiredPHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Carrying, handling and reaching for objects up to 25 lbs.
- Prolonged standing and/or sitting
- Exposure to hazardous/toxic/dangerous chemicals
- Manual dexterity required to operate office and lab equipment -
