Job Description:
MaineHealth Behavioral Health (MHBH) is seeking a dedicated and
skilled Adult Outpatient Psychiatrist to join our tertiary academic
practice in Portland, Maine. This is a full-time, faculty
opportunity for motivated clinicians who are also passionate
educators, committed to advancing the care of individuals with
complex mental health needs and the training of future healthcare
professionals. Our outpatient psychiatry clinic is an integral part
of a leading academic medical center and is staffed by a
collaborative, multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists,
psychologists, social workers, nurses, vocational counselors, and a
neuropsychologist. We work in close partnership with both primary
and specialty care providers, ensuring holistic, patient-centered
treatment. The clinic is associated with a full continuum of
care—including a partial hospital program, an inpatient hospital,
and an emergency department featuring an acute psychiatry
unit—enabling transitions and comprehensive support for our
patients. Position Highlights: - Provide high-quality,
evidence-based psychiatric care to adults in an outpatient setting,
focusing on individuals with complex and co-occurring mental health
conditions. - Engage actively in collaborative treatment planning
with multidisciplinary colleagues and referring providers across
the care continuum. - Serve as a clinical educator, teaching
psychiatry residents and medical students through direct
supervision, didactics, and clinical consultation. - Participate in
team and staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and
opportunities for academic development and scholarly activity.
Minimum Qualification: - Graduate of Allopathic or Osteopathic
Medical School. Completion of internship and psychiatric residency
and/or fellowship training. - Current or eligible licensure as a
physician by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine. - Certified
by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or be eligible
for examination by the American Board as documented by written
evidence. - Board Certified or board eligible in general
psychiatry. - Current DEA Registration Certificate. - Demonstrated
experience or strong interest in adult outpatient psychiatry and
treating patients with complex mental illnesses. - Enthusiasm for
medical education and mentorship, with a commitment to teaching and
learning in a diverse academic environment. This position offers: -
