Job Title: RN Psych Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatric Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating Days/Evenings/Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years of inpatient adult psychiatric experience License: Active Registered Nurse License Certifications: AHA BLS, Certification in De-escalation Must-Have: Proficient in using automatic medication dispensing systems. Proficient in electronic health records documentation, preferably EPIC. Proficient in the use of psychotropic medications and understanding their side effects. Ability to assume the role of charge nurse. Ability to complete admissions and discharges. Competent in the use of IV pumps. Competent in the care of diabetic patients. Description: This unit consists of a 30-bed capacity for adults aged 18 to 65. Patients are treated for a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. There is a focus on individuals with suicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. Patients with dual diagnoses may detoxify while receiving treatment for mental health conditions. The unit also accommodates some medically acute patients requiring IV therapy and wound care. The clinician to patient ratio is 1 RN to 7 or 8 patients. Floating among different units may be required. Rotating shifts are required for day positions; however, this is not mandatory for night shifts. Knowledge of regulations related to mental health care is essential, including rights regarding restraint and seclusion. Participants will receive training on specific protocols and guidelines relevant to psychiatric nursing. Understanding of legal matters pertaining to guardianship and healthcare proxies is important. BLS certification is required.
